What Is Bridgerton Season 4 About? (No Spoilers)

Benedict falls for a masked woman at his mother’s masquerade ball and spends the season searching for the “Lady in Silver”. The woman is Sophie Baek, a maid whose job and background make a match with a Bridgerton almost impossible in Regency society. Class, reputation and family pressure keep pulling them apart.

It is a Cinderella-style love story, and it is the first season led by Benedict.

Age Rating and Content Warnings

Netflix lists Bridgerton as TV-MA in the US, for strong sexual content, nudity and language. A UK age rating has not been confirmed in the sources we checked, so look at the Netflix UK title page before letting younger viewers watch. If children share your account, you can set maturity limits and profile PINs with Netflix parental controls in the UK.

Filming Locations and Soundtrack

Season 4 was made in England. Netflix says the production expanded onto newly built back lots at Shepperton Studios outside London, including Georgian and Regency-style sets and a replica Mayfair street. The show also uses historic houses and estates for its country scenes.

The music mixes Kris Bowers’ score with orchestral covers of modern pop songs, which is now a signature of the show.

Reviews and Awards

Season 4 holds an 83% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes (re-checked 26 October 2026). Metacritic labels it “generally favourable”. Season 4 also earned four nominations at the 2026 Emmys, per the Television Academy: Julie Andrews for character voice-over, plus choreography, period costumes for “Dance in the Country” and period hairstyling for “The Waltz”. Andrews was the only cast member nominated. Her Emmy win for the role came earlier, for the season three finale in 2025.

SPOILERS BELOW: Part 1 Recap

Spoiler warning: everything from here to the end of the book comparison reveals the finale. Skip to the Season 5 section if you have not finished Part 2.

Part 1 sets up the Cinderella story. Benedict meets Sophie, disguised as the Lady in Silver, at the masquerade and cannot forget her. He then realises Sophie is a maid, and the gap between their worlds gets in the way. Part 1 closes with Benedict offering Sophie a place as his mistress, not a wife. That offer is the question Part 2 has to answer.

Bridgerton Season 4 Part 2 Ending Explained

Do Benedict and Sophie end up together?

Do they get married?

Book vs Show: How An Offer from a Gentleman Was Adapted

Season 4 is based on An Offer from a Gentleman, the third Bridgerton novel by Julia Quinn. The core of the story carries over: the masquerade meeting, Sophie working as a maid and the class gap that stands between her and Benedict. Netflix describes the show’s Sophie as resourceful and resilient, close to the book version.

The series also gives more time to the wider family, which is why Francesca, Violet and Penelope all have their own storylines. Beyond that, no official source we checked lists every change scene by scene, so we have not guessed at them.

Netflix has confirmed the next steps for the franchise.
