Here is the short answer, because most pages make you scroll for it: no UK subscription service carries Hacksaw Ridge at the moment. Not Netflix, not Prime Video, not Sky or NOW, not Disney+. You can rent it from £3.49 or buy it for £7.99, and that is the whole picture.
That matters because a great deal of the advice online is written for American readers. If you have seen Paramount+ mentioned, that is the US arrangement. If you remember the film on Netflix, you are not misremembering – it was there, and it left.
Below: every UK option with what it actually costs, whether renting or buying works out cheaper, why it is not on a subscription service, and whether that is likely to change.
Where to watch Hacksaw Ridge in the UK right now
Five services carry it, and every one charges per view. Four let you rent or buy; BFI Player is rental only. None includes it with a subscription, and there is no free option – no ITVX, no Channel 4, no Pluto TV.
| Service | Rent | Buy | Picture |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple TV Store | £3.49 | £7.99 | 4K |
| Amazon Video | £3.49 | £7.99 | 4K |
| Rakuten TV | £3.49 | £7.99 | HD |
| Sky Store | £3.49 | £7.99 | HD |
| BFI Player | £3.50 | — | HD |
| Any subscription service | Not available | ||
| Any free service | Not available | ||
The useful detail in that table is the last column. All four main services charge the same £3.49, but Apple TV and Amazon give you 4K while Rakuten and Sky Store give you HD. Same money, better picture. If you are paying either way, start with one of the first two.
BFI Player is a penny more and worth knowing about for other reasons – it is the one on this list with a genuinely different catalogue, which our guide to where to watch classic films in the UK goes into.
What that looks like across the whole market
Watch the trailer
Two and a half minutes, and a fair warning about the tone of the second half of the film.
Rent or buy? The arithmetic
£3.49 to rent, £7.99 to own. The break-even is not where most people assume.
| How many times you watch it | Renting costs | Buying costs | Cheaper option |
|---|---|---|---|
| Once | £3.49 | £7.99 | Rent |
| Twice | £6.98 | £7.99 | Rent, just |
| Three times | £10.47 | £7.99 | Buy |
| Four times | £13.96 | £7.99 | Buy, clearly |
So: rent it for a one-off, and buy it only if you are the sort of household that puts a war film on every Remembrance weekend. Buying pays off on the third viewing, and not before.
One more thing worth saying plainly, because it is the point people miss. A single £3.49 rental is cheaper than a month of any subscription service in Britain. If you signed up to something purely to watch this film, you would pay more and still not find it. Our comparison of UK streaming services sets out what each one actually carries.
Why it is not on Netflix any more
If you are here because you went looking on Netflix and could not find it, you are remembering correctly. Hacksaw Ridge was on Netflix UK and came off at the end of July 2026, according to streaming trackers – Netflix does not publish its removal schedule, so that date is reported rather than official.
Nothing went wrong and nobody changed their mind. Netflix does not own most of what it streams; it licenses films from studios for a fixed period, in a fixed country. When the term ends, the title comes off unless both sides agree new terms.
Netflix states publicly what it weighs when a licence expires: whether the rights are still available at all, and how popular the title is in a region against what it costs to license. Note the emphasis on region – that is Netflix’s own word, and it means a film can do perfectly well in Britain and still go.
The fuller mechanics are in our guides to what’s leaving Netflix UK and how long films stay on Netflix, which covers the usual one-to-three-year licence terms.
Will it come back to a subscription service?
Quite possibly, and nobody can tell you when. That is an honest answer rather than a cop-out, and here is the reasoning.
Rights return to the studio when a deal ends, and get sold again. Licensed films cycle between services constantly – a title that left Netflix last year commonly turns up on Prime Video or Sky eighteen months later. Our explainer on how UK streaming rights work covers why a film can vanish from one app and appear on another with no announcement.
What makes this particular film a reasonable bet for a return: it is a decade old, it is well reviewed, and it has no obvious home. It is not a studio’s flagship, so nobody has a strong reason to keep it exclusive.
The practical move: if you want it free rather than now, add it to a watchlist on a cross-service search tool and let it tell you when the answer changes. Our where to watch in the UK hub explains how to search every British service at once, which is a two-minute habit that saves exactly this kind of hunting.
Is it worth £3.49?
By the numbers, yes – and the interesting part is the gap between what critics said and what audiences said.
Audiences rate it higher than critics on both sites, and by a wide margin on Metacritic. That pattern usually means a film that does what it sets out to do extremely well while dividing opinion on whether it should have set out to do it – which is a fair summary of the reaction to this one.
The awards back up the technical side. At the 2017 Academy Awards it took six nominations and won two: Best Film Editing and Best Sound Mixing. It lost Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor. It also won Best Editing at the BAFTAs from five nominations.
Both wins were for craft rather than performance, and if you watch it you will understand why. The second half is one long, sustained battle sequence, and the editing and sound are doing most of the work.
The BBFC rating, and who it is not for
This is the part a US-written guide cannot give you, and it is the question most parents are actually asking.
Hacksaw Ridge is a 15 in the UK, passed uncut. The reasons given are strong bloody violence, gory injury detail and strong language.
Take that seriously. A 15 certificate covers a very wide range, and this film sits at the top of it. The battle sequences are prolonged and graphically medical – the point of the film is a man treating catastrophic wounds under fire, and it does not look away. Several reviewers at the time argued it was close to an 18.
If you are choosing something for a family evening, this is not it. If you want to check what a rating means before pressing play on anything, our guide to UK age ratings and parental controls explains how the BBFC categories work on streaming services and how to set a profile to respect them.

Desmond Doss was a real soldier, and the outline of the film is true. He was a Seventh-day Adventist who would not carry a weapon, served as a combat medic at the Battle of Okinawa in 1945, and became the only conscientious objector to receive the Medal of Honor for service in the Second World War.
The escarpment the Americans called Hacksaw Ridge was a fortified cliff around 400 feet high. Doss’s actions there ran from late April into May 1945.
About the number 75
Every article about this film, and the film’s own marketing, says Doss saved 75 men. It is worth knowing where that figure comes from, because it is more interesting than a round number.
It is an agreed estimate, not a count. Accounts of the day varied widely – Doss himself thought the number was lower than his commanders claimed, and estimates ranged from roughly 50 to 100. 75 was the figure settled on for his Medal of Honor citation.
That does not diminish anything. It is simply how these things were recorded in 1945, under fire, by people with other priorities. But if you have wondered why the number is always exactly 75, that is why.
If you cannot find it, or want something similar free
Three things worth knowing before you pay for anything.
Check what you already have. Britain’s free services carry far more than people expect, and a cross-service search takes seconds. Our guides to free films on UK streaming and free streaming in the UK cover what is actually on them – it is the most underused option in the country.
Check availability yourself rather than trusting any list, including this one. Catalogues change weekly. A cross-service search on the UK version of a lookup tool is the only answer that is right today, and our where to watch in the UK hub explains the routine.
If you are weighing a subscription anyway, our guides to Prime Video in the UK and NOW and Sky set out what each carries, and how long UK films take to reach streaming covers the windows that decide when anything turns up in the first place.
Frequently asked questions
Is Hacksaw Ridge on Netflix UK?
No. It was on Netflix UK and came off at the end of July 2026, according to streaming trackers. Netflix does not publish removal schedules, so treat that date as reported rather than official. It is now rent or buy only in Britain.
Is Hacksaw Ridge on Prime Video, Sky or Disney+?
Not included with any of them. Amazon Video and Sky Store both rent it for £3.49 and sell it for £7.99, but that is a separate transaction rather than part of a subscription. Disney+ does not carry it in any form.
What is the cheapest way to watch Hacksaw Ridge in the UK?
A £3.49 rental from Apple TV Store, Amazon Video, Rakuten TV or Sky Store. Apple TV and Amazon include 4K at that price while the other two are HD, so start there. There is no free or subscription option at present.
Should I rent or buy it?
Rent, unless you expect to watch it three times or more. At £3.49 against £7.99, buying only pays off on the third viewing.
Why is Hacksaw Ridge a 15 and not an 18?
The BBFC passed it 15 uncut for strong bloody violence, gory injury detail and strong language. It sits at the very top of that category, and several reviewers argued at the time that it was close to an 18. It is not a family film.
How long is Hacksaw Ridge?
139 minutes, or 2 hours 19 minutes.
Did Desmond Doss really save 75 men?
75 is an agreed estimate rather than a count. Figures at the time ranged from about 50 to 100, and 75 was the number settled on for his Medal of Honor citation. He was the only conscientious objector to receive that award for service in the Second World War.
Will Hacksaw Ridge return to a streaming subscription?
Very possibly, though no date can be known. Rights return to the studio when a licence ends and are resold, so licensed films cycle between services. A decade-old, well-reviewed film with no obvious exclusive home is a reasonable candidate to reappear.
In short
No UK subscription service has Hacksaw Ridge. Rent it for £3.49, and pick Apple TV or Amazon so you get 4K for the same money. Buy it only if you will watch it three times. It left Netflix UK in July 2026 because the licence ran out, and it may well turn up somewhere else in a year or two, because that is what licensed films do.
